Originally it was called the fairy cake; and still is in England. Just like we changed frosting into icing, here in the US we call them cup cakes.

They are decorated just like cakes with icing, fondant, and sometimes sprinkles.

Back in the day, in the 1800’s, these small cakes were baked in individual pottery cups which is where they got their name “cup cakes.”

Cup cakes are a lower cost alternative and are more often being used as a substitute for wedding cakes .

It’s also easier to serve because they are already portioned and in a serving paper cup.

Many of our clients request cup cake fillings.
